We offer advanced surgical techniques to repair your hernia and decrease the chance of it coming back. We offer both mesh and non-mesh repairs depending on the type and location of the hernia as well as patient preference. We offer open and laparoscopic hernia repairs. We specialize in advanced laparoscopic hernia repairs. Also known as minimally invasive surgery, it is performed with a camera and very small incisions. This often results in less post-operative pain, a quicker recovery, and a much stronger, longer-lasting repair. We also offer abdominal wall reconstruction for patients with very large or complex incisional hernias. Abdominal wall reconstruction is a stronger repair that helps prevent the hernia from coming back.
We do recommend mesh for certain types of hernias. Mesh offers a foundation for the body to lay down scar tissue resulting in a stronger, less painful repair. Not all hernias require mesh repair. We also offer tissue repair with sutures for those patients who do not want a mesh repair.
No. We do not use any mesh currently involved in lawsuits. We primarily use standard polypropyline mesh that has been safely implanted for over 30 years. Many of the lawsuit meshes are the newer meshes made out of alternative materials. WE DO NOT USE MESH PLUGS AND STRONGLY RECOMMEND AGAINST USING THEM IN HERNIA REPAIRS. The mesh plugs are known to have serious complications including chronic pain and erosion into internal organs. We have taken care of many patients who had mesh plugs placed at other facilities and had to have them removed for chronic pain or because they eroded into internal organs. If you are offered a mesh plug repair for your hernia we recommend you get a second opinion.
